Noah and Allie met on the summer 1940.
Allie was 17 years old.
He was out with his friends, and the moment he saw her he knew she was special.
Though she found him annoying at first, he found a way to make her go out with him.
They went to the movies with a group for their first date.
They fought, they didn’t agree on anything. But they were in love.
What Allie liked most about Noah is that he was free, he gave her excitement.
All her life she had followed a strict schedule (her parents had her life all planned out)
but he showed her how to be carefree and have fun away from her monotonous existence.
He taught her how to dance, even when there is no music. It was the most beautiful and memorable summer of their lives.
After her parents learned about their relationship, they were furious and wanted them apart. Allie was going to New York for college, while he was staying in Seabrook.
He worked at the lumber factory, not making much money; while she had the world at her feet.
Allie : “Come with me to New York.”
Noah : “What am I going to do there?”
Allie : “Be with me…”
Noah decided to do the right thing, break up with her. He didn’t believe that long distance relationships would work. So he let her go.
And so they went on with their lives, found other people to love.
Allie finished school and met her fiance, and Noah went to build his dream house and went into another relationship.
Seven years passed, and as Allie was preparing for her wedding, she saw his picture in the paper, so she made a decision to go and visit him.
They talked, they reminisced about everything that had happened that one summer.
Allie : “It wasn’t over for me, I waited for you for seven years! And now its too late.”
Noah : “It wasn’t over… It still isn’t over.”
They fell inlove again, hard. Noah and Allie spent the days together like they were the only two people in the world.
Then came the time for Allie to go back. But this time Noah wanted her to stay.
Noah thought that Allie was going back to her fiancé because he had money.
He accused her of being bored and that’s the only reason why she came back to his life.
He didn’t seem to notice the agony and turmoil inside of Allie.
She took a chance, coming back to him.
Noah : “Would you just stay with me?”
Allie : “For what? Look at us we’re already fighting.”
Noah : “Well that’s what we do we fight. ITS NOT GOING TO BE EASY, ITS GOING TO BE REALLY HARD. AND WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO WORK AT THIS EVERDAYBUT I WANT TO DO THAT BECAUSE I WANT YOU. I WANT ALL OF YOU. FOREVER. YOU AND ME EVERYDAY.
Will you do something for me? Just picture your life for me -- 30 years from now, 40 years from now…
What does it look like? If its with that guy, go!
I lost you once, I think I can do it again. If that’s what you really want. But don’t take the easy way out.”
Allie : “What easy way out? No matter what I do someone gets hurt!”
Noah : “Would you stop thinking about what everyone wants! Stop thinking about what I want, what he wants, what your parents want…
What do you want?? What do YOU want?”
Allie : “Its not that simple…”
Noah : WHAT DO YOU WANT?
She doesn’t answer, and she leaves.
Allie confronts her fiance, and they had CLOSURE.
In the end, she chose him because SHE WANTS TO BE WITH HIM.
Then she comes back to him, and they live happily ever after.
In fact, they even die together holding hands.
That is the ending of their love story.
If only real life was this simple.
